Community Review
When a subtitle is uploaded, registered users can review and rate it across four dimensions: sync accuracy, translation quality, readability, and cultural nuance. Each dimension is scored from 0 to 10.
Weighted Scoring
Individual ratings are combined using a weighted average. Sync accuracy and translation quality each account for 30% of the overall score, while readability and cultural nuance each contribute 20%. Verified reviewers carry higher weight.
Badges & Ranking
Subtitles scoring 9.0 or above earn an Excellent badge. Scores between 7.5 and 8.9 earn a Good badge. Subtitles below 5.0 are flagged for review and may be removed. The best subtitles rise to the top of search results.

Subtitles are rated by our community of 500,000+ contributors. Verified reviewers with proven language expertise carry higher weight in scoring. Any registered user can submit a review, but experienced contributors’ ratings have a greater impact on the final score.
What does each quality score category measure?
Sync Accuracy measures how well subtitle timing matches the audio. Translation Quality evaluates correctness, grammar, and faithfulness to the original dialogue. Readability checks reading speed, line length, and formatting. Cultural Nuance assesses how well idioms, humor, and cultural references are adapted for the target audience.
Can I contribute to quality scoring?
Yes! Any registered SoftSubs user can rate subtitles and leave quality reviews. As you submit accurate reviews, your reviewer reputation grows, and your ratings carry more weight. Top contributors are featured on our leaderboard and earn badges.
What do the quality score badges mean?
Subtitles scoring 9.0 or above receive a green Excellent badge. Scores between 7.5 and 8.9 receive a blue Good badge. Scores between 5.0 and 7.4 receive a yellow Fair badge. Anything below 5.0 is flagged for review by our moderation team and may be removed from the library.
How do I report a quality issue with a subtitle?
Use our Report Issues page to flag problems with any subtitle file. Select the issue type (timing, translation, formatting, or other), describe the problem, and our moderation team will review it within 48 hours. You can also leave a detailed review on the subtitle’s page to help other users.
